Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

What size skips are available from Blue Star?
Blue Star offers a wide range of skip sizes for just about every need. Skips sizes are measured in cubic yards. We offer all types of skips and containers from 2 CU yards to 40 CU yards.

Which skip size is the right for me or my business?
At Blue Star, we offer a full range of skips. Some are great for a bit of DIY, perhaps redoing that kitchen or bathroom. Others are for more commercial uses. If you are unsure of which skip is right for your project, please contact our skip hire specialists. We’d be more than happy to chat directly with you to make sure you get the skip you need.

What materials CAN go into a skip?
Our skips are for disposing of inert waste – wood, cardboard, old sofas or chairs. Basically, any non-hazardous waste materials can go into our skips. If you have are uncertain, please give our skip hire specialists a call to discuss it over the telephone.

What materials CAN’T go into a skip?
The following items are considered hazardous waste:

gas bottles
fluorescent tubes
light bulbs
vehicle batteries
If you are disposing of any of the above, please give us a call, so we can tell you about our hazardous waste services and make special arrangements.

Where can the skips be placed?
Skips need to be placed on private property. They cannot be placed on the highway without a permit and correct signage and lights – our skip hire specialists can procure this for you should you require one. If you cannot place on private land, we can still help you by arranging for a grab lorry, which can pick up the rubbish direct from the ground.

As the vehicles delivering to your house are very large, please ensure that there is sufficient access to the point where our skips need to be delivered. If you are unsure about access, please give us a call and we can provide you with the approximate dimensions of the lorry used to deliver the skip you require.

Please remember that due to the stabilising equipment on a skip lorry, damage can sometimes occur to the ground where the skip is positioned. This is especially applicable to block paved and soft tarmac drives. For more information on this please contact us.

Is my waste recycled?
Yes, we use our state-of-the-art Recycling Centre to recycle nearly all waste that we receive.
